For up to date events and advocacy issues of the Ontario Chamber.
Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC)
You are cordially invited to participate in the next NEBS Mission to Buffalo on Wednesday, September 22nd and Thursday, September 23rd, 2010.
NEBS is a practical, cost-effective program ideally suited to give Ontario manufacturers, distributors, agents and other business professionals the tools they need to easily expand their business interests across the border. The NEBS program offers guidelines to Ontario businesses for USA sales, shipping and business transactions.
Expert briefings on a range of topics include dealing with border issues such as U.S. business travel and immigration requirements, currency exchange options, business planning, taxation, and legal considerations and U.S. Customs clearance procedures. Participants will visit a fulfillment warehouse in Buffalo. In addition, a briefing on provincial and federal trade programs and services will be provided along with one-on-one meetings with the trade commissioners at the Canadian Consulate in Buffalo.
NEBS is run by the International Trade Branch of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in co-operation with the Canadian Consulate General in Buffalo.
If your company has been in business for at least one year and has a manufacturing or service base in Ontario and you are interested in obtaining additional information on this program, please complete the form and fax it to the fax number provided.

Business Takes Action
Business Takes Action was created in 2007 and was funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Its main objective is to promote hiring qualified people with disabilities to meet skill shortages. In doing this, it offers free workshops to interested businesses, showcases the benefits of hiring and retaining people with disabilities and it gives businesses the tools to help create an accessible and accommodating atmosphere. Business Takes Action has five values that it follows:
Awareness – Education and resources can aid in removing physical attitudinal/stereotypes in the workplace.
Accessibility – An accessible workplace is more than just legal compliance, it removes barriers that prevent customers and highly skilled workers from adding value to your organization.
Accommodation – Creates optimal conditions for employees to succeed at their highest potential
Ability – It is very important to focus on the capabilities rather than the disabilities.
Action – Understanding the issue is one thing but it is important to aim to take leadership by recruiting and retaining persons with disabilities.
There are many myths about hiring people with disabilities, majority of them being false. Studies have proven that 86% of disabled persons were rated as having higher attendance records than their fellow colleagues. Also this studied proved that 90% of disabled persons rated average or better on a job than other employees. Business Takes Action is a great initiative to become more informed and accommodating. Want to Voice Your Opinion?
The Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce has created an online forum for you. On this forum, you can ask business related questions, voice your opinion about business matters, or join existing discussions by sharing your insight.
Participation in the forum is free to everyone - not just Chamber members. The discussions can be viewed without having to log in, but you will have to register as a user (identify yourself) in order to actively start or join discussions. Once you have registered, you will receive an email with your login information and you can then create comments as you wish. The forum has moderators who will allow (or disallow) messages to be published.
What is allowed?
We do not want to be too strict. Strong opinions are appreciated as long as the language itself is decent. We do have to be strict about the topics though; they have to be business related, after all, we are talking about a forum on the website of the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
So go to the forum and start reading. Or better yet, sign up for a free account and join the discussion or start a new topic.
What's on your mind? Your Chamber wants to hear from you.
